A Different Kind of Art Show

Meet Opie
I am going to enter Opie into an art show this is a “A Different Kind of Show” at The Art Sanctuary in Martinsville, IN 46151

Why is it different? Because this show is for the love of art. Emphasis will not be on how you placed, but on the art itself. And, instead of a judge, the artists themselves will choose who receives the awards. There will be a party at pick-up for peer voting and to honor the art and artists. It will be a rare, fun opportunity to meet other artists and get to know more about them.

Submissions: Any artist 18 years of age and older no matter what medium is eligible. We are accepting all media: paintings drawings, photography, pottery, jewelry, china, sculpture, textile arts (such as weaving, original sewing projects}, mixed media, assemblage art, digital art, wood carving etc.

Entries submitted to “A Different Kind of Show” will be voted on by their peers for Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards. Only artists who submitted a piece to the show will be able to vote for their favorite work of art. Prize money will depend on the number of entries so invite all your artist friends to submit entries to the show.

Show Opening: April 13, 2012 from 6p.m. to 9p.m in the main gallery of the Art Sanctuary. This is also 2nd Friday Open Studios from 6-9 pm.

Martinsville, Indiana and the Oscars

A local artist from my home town, Pam Hurst, is having her product showcased at the Oscars.  Pam's studio is located at The Art Sanctuary in Martinsville.  Below is an article from RTV6 news who interviewed Ms. Hurst. When reading the article I could feel Pam's excitement.  Could you imagine your product being showcased to people that by just wearing or even talking about a product could sell that product.  Sky's the limit for Pam Hurst Designs.

Below is the article from RTV6news (the Indy Channel)

Oscar Swag Bags Feature Ind. Artist's Work

Pam Hurst's Necklaces To Be Given Away

The work of an Indiana artist could soon be worn by celebrities who'll walk the red carpet at Sunday's Academy Awards.

Pam Hurst, a former General Motors engineer turned artist, sells her jewelry designs out of her studio in Martinsville and online.
A company called the Artisans Group asked her to contribute 100 necklaces to be given away at gift lounges at events leading up to the Oscars, RTV6's Julie Pursley reported.

"They set up this lounge in the hotel and you get invited, and you get to come through and then you get all of these bags of things," Hurst said.

Hurst uses recycled silver and fuses wire together to make necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings. She hopes her one-of-a-kind designs catch the eye of Hollywood's elite.

"Of course Angelina Jolie would be great," Hurst said, laughing. "As much as I try to make them exactly alike, I can't. But that's the wonders of a handmade item. They're not going to look like they are mass produced."

Hurst said she sold five times more pieces in 2011 than she did in 2012. Now the sky may be the limit. "It's just like the next step. It makes me a little nervous, though," she said, laughing.

The 84th Annual Academy Awards will air Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on RTV6.
